The SR Education Group Scholarship Committee has selected the March 2017 Community College Scholarship winners! Four deserving students will each receive $2,500 toward their education: Trusten Brown, Ryan Ramirez, Angela Denney, and Elie Gooch.
Trusten Brown is in the aviation technology program at Clover Park Technical College. After completing the program, he plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in aeronautical science. His application materials demonstrated his dedication to becoming a fixed wing pilot. Trusten is working extremely hard to reach his goal, despite the financial burden of flight training.
Ryan Ramirez attends Rogue Community College and plans to transfer to a four year university in order to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology. He balances schoolwork and caring for his three young children while his wife works as an ultrasound technician. After completing his education, Ryan wants to become a juvenile probation officer so that his work can positively influence the lives of youth.
Angela Denney is pursuing a social science degree at Lassen Community College. Her goals include earning a Master’s in Social Work and becoming a social worker who works with foster children. She is the sole provider for her two young children and is determined to overcome personal financial struggles to build a better life for her family while pursuing an education.
Elie Gooch is studying automotive technology at Seminole State College of Florida. After spending 12 years in the U.S. Army, he has experienced difficulties transitioning back to civilian life. He would eventually like to open up his own mechanic shop, and is incredibly dedicated to overcoming personal struggles to achieve his goal.
Many of our scholarship applicants have compelling stories, but we are especially touched and impressed with our winners. They each demonstrated outstanding dedication and proved their ability to persevere through life’s challenges in pursuit of their education and career goals.
